Obituary for Carolyn R. (Carol) Mealia (Stutsman)

MEALIA, Carolyn R. “Carol” "Nana" (nee Stutsman), age 89, of Glen Rock, died on June 30, 2022. Born and raised in Jersey City for 20 years, she lived in Union City, North Bergen and Hoboken before settling in Garfield 62 years ago. Carolyn trained as a Nurse before starting her family, was a homemaker and an active parishioner and volunteer of Our Lady of Mt. Virgin RC Church in Garfield serving on the Feast Committee and working with the RCIA program. Carolyn was a founding member and coach of the Garfield Girls Softball League in 1966, and sponsored a child from Guadalupe many years with the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging. Carol is predeceased by her husband, James, Sr. in 2008, her daughter, Eileen Mealia, and two siblings, Mildred Schomp and Edward Stutsman. She is survived by three children, James Mealia and wife Carmela, Linda Merendino and Barbara Mellen, seven grandchildren, Bobby, Kristina (William), Stephanie (Eddie), Valerie (T.J.), Richard (Gisselle), Amanda, and Melissa, and seven great-grandchildren, Daniel, Gabriella, Emily, Isabella, Allison, Tyler, and Alecsander James. Memorial Visiting Wednesday 5 to 7 pm with a 6:30 pm chapel service. Inurnment Thursday 9 am at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook. In lieu of flowers the family is accepting memorial donations in Carolyn's name to your charity of choice.
