Obituary for Catherine "Kay" Petriello

PETRIELLO, Catherine “Kay” died on March 28, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years old. Kay was born to Joseph and Francesca (DeLisa) Petriello and lived her entire life on the same property in Garfield, NJ. She graduated from Garfield High School and started working at Mazzo Oil Company, where she remained as Office Manager until she retired 62 years later. Kay was a long-time parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church. She served as Treasurer of the Rosary Society (which she had been a member of since she was a teenager), was a Parish Council Member, a Council Finance Committee Member, a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the RCIA Program and volunteered for numerous activities as needed. She was also a member of the Garfield YMCA where she practiced yoga, took exercise classes and played volleyball among other activities.
She is survived by her brother Frank Petriello (the late Mary/the late Josephine) and his children Frances Atieh (the late Louis), Joseph Petriello (Denise) and Jane Petriello; the late John Petriello (the late Terry) and his children John Petriello (Anne), Michael Petriello (Barbara), and Patty Petriello; and her twin brother, the late Anthony Petriello (Annette) and his children Antoinette Blaustein (Gary), Lisa Tarpey (Colin) and Joseph Petriello. She also leaves behind many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Kay was known for her kind spirit, her generosity, devotion to family and sense of fashion, particularly her signature hats. She regularly practiced the fine art of visiting family and friends, always bringing local Italian pastries and treats. In her free time, she could often be found shopping and was noted for her abundant gift-giving. She was devoted to her nieces and nephews and she rarely missed a recital, birthday party, graduation, or other family event. She often organized family ice-skating trips as well as trips to Broadway shows, operas and ballets. She loved to break bread with family and friends and was charming company. The personal interest that she took in everyone earned her the title “Aunt Kay” by many.
