ORTYL, Edward, Jr. “Hambone”, age 56, a lifelong resident of Garfield, died on December 8, 2021. Edward worked many years as a driver for Eastern Concrete, Little Ferry retiring in 2016. Edward devoted his entire life volunteering for the Garfield Fire Department - Company 3 where he was just honored for his 35 years of service. Edward became the Garfield Fire Chief in 2007, was President and Vice President of the company in addition to being Engineer 1987-1989, Lieutenant 1990-1992, and 1994-2002, and Assistant Chief 2003-2006. He was a life member of both the Garfield Firemen’s Exempt Association and the NJ State Exempt Firemen’s Association, as well as the Bergen County Fire Chiefs Association. Eddie is predeceased by his beloved parents, Helen and Edward, Sr. He is survived by two uncles John Opalka and wife Regina and Frank Opalka, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Garfield Volunteer Fire Department Company 3, 159 Gaston Avenue, Garfield, NJ 07026.
