JOHNSON, Eric L., age 68, of Clifton, NJ, formerly of Garfield, NJ, died on April 19, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New York, NY, he was raised in Ridgefield before settling into Garfield many years ago. Eric was a dedicated volunteer and advocate for the Boys and Girls Club of Garfield. Throughout the years, he served in many roles including: Member of the Board of Trustees; President of the Coaches Association; Secretary of the Coaches Association. He was a volunteer coach of football, basketball and baseball for over two decades. His two favorite passions were the New York Yankees and his vast collection of baseball/sports trading cards. Eric is predeceased by his wife, Donna Marie (née Rovelli), and his parents, Robert and Mona Johnson (née Weisbart). He is survived by two devoted children, Philip Arthur Johnson and Jessica Johnson and husband John Niebo, a cherished grandson, Connor Niebo, his dear brother, Alan Johnson, his mother-in-law, Denise Herckenrath, and he was the beloved uncle to Matthew Johnson, Danielle Cimmet, Joseph Rovelli, William Rovelli, Nicholas Rovelli, Debbie Rovelli and Christopher Rovelli. Memorial Visiting Sunday 2 to 6 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Eric’s name to the Boys and Girls Club of Garfield.
