Obituary for George Joseph Benevento

BENEVENTO, George Jr, age 77, of Wood Ridge, died on January 31, 2022. The son of George Benevento and Madeline Barchetta, he was born and raised in Cliffside Park, residing in Closter for many years before moving to Wood Ridge eight years ago. He was a graduate of Cliffside Park High School, completed his undergraduate degree at Rutgers University and his MBA from the University of Rhode Island. Before retiring in 2004 he served as Comptroller for AGFA Corporation in Ridgefield Park. George is survived by his devoted fiancé Joanne Parnofiello, three loving children – sons Christian Benevento and Matthew Benevento (wife Katherine), and daughter Tara Malkowski (husband Michael), sisters Marilyn Mitchell (husband Robert) and Judith Rommes (husband John), and three beloved grandchildren, McKenna, Logan, and Mia. He is also survived by a large, extended family of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
He was a most devoted and loving son, nephew, brother, cousin, father, uncle, partner, and friend. Throughout his life he embodied the will and determination of a winning athlete, bringing his intelligence, skill, and wit to the baseball field, the basketball court, the classroom, and the boardroom. For this he earned many awards and recognition. His unfailing zest for life made him an enthusiastic sports fan, avid lover of TV, movies and history, and a key contributor to all celebrations with family and his close-knit brotherhood of friends spanning more than 70 years. His compassion and generosity with those in need was ever-present. Throughout his life he inspired, mentored, coached, shared, laughed, and loved. He was courageous and dignified - a man of his word who at his core valued loyalty, family, friendship, and life. He leaves a legacy of unforgettable memories, goodness, and humor. Loved by all who knew him - he will be missed.
