Obituary for Mario J. Codella

CODELLA, Mario J., age 97, of Lodi, died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 5, 2023. Born and raised in Newark for 29 years, he moved to the Edison/Metuchen area for 50 years and Bangor, PA for 16 years before settling in Lodi two years ago. Mario was a US Marine Corps combat veteran serving in the Pacific during WWII and received two Purple Hearts. He was a Plant Manager for 42 years with NJ Tanning in Newark, retiring in 1990, and was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s RC Church in Lodi, a former parishioner of St. Francis RC Cathedral in Metuchen, Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church in Bangor, PA, and Guardian Angels RC Church in Edison, where he was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Holy Name Society. He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Helen “Lois” (nee Frost) in 2006, his parents, Domenic and Carmela Codella, and his siblings, Anthony and Domenic Codella, Lucille Catena and Matilda Weis. He is survived by three devoted children, Stephen Codella and the late Jayne, Carole D’Amico and husband Joseph, and Cathy Baker and husband Gene, eight loving grandchildren, Angela Nagel (Erik), Frank D’Amico (Tracie), Anthony D’Amico (Jennifer), Daniel D’Amico (Danielle), Casey Baker (Kyle), Nicole Baker (Nick), Rudy Wobito and Jennifer Wobito, six beloved great-grandchildren, Francesca, Rocco, Joseph, Gabriella and Mario D’Amico, and Veronica Nagel, and he was the caring uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visiting Tuesday 4 to 8 pm. The funeral is Wednesday, March 8, 2023, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 9:30 am followed by a 10:30 am Mass at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Lodi.
