Raymond “Ray” Joseph Rupertus, Sr., 68, of Newfield, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021. Ray was born on April 25, 1952 to Edward and Hildred Rupertus. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Virginia Rupertus; his children Raymond Rupertus, Jr, John Rupertus (Lisa), Jenna Volosin (Jason), and Elizabeth Alper (Steven); his grandchildren Austin, Alexander, Hunter, Jace, Logan and Caitlyn; siblings Edward Rupertus Jr., Richard Rupertus, Dolly McDade. Patricia White, Leonard Rupertus, Dee Brandhorst, Thad Rupertus, Judy Savarese, Robert Rupertus, and Terry Gibbs.
Ray was known for his love of the ocean, and spent many summer days fishing, boating, or smoking a cigar by the water. He was a family man, a loving husband and father, but his favorite title was “PopPop.” Ray loved doing various odd jobs around the house, with his best furry friend Dory by his side. He was known for being a generous man, and would have given the shirt off of his back to anyone who needed it. He lit up a room with his smile, and made everyone laugh with a quick joke or favorite movie quote. He is not gone, he has just gone fishing.
Private services will be held by the family. A Celebration of Life will follow (date to be determined). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity near and dear to his heart. The Rupertus family is in the care of the Aloia Funeral Home, 180 Harrison Avenue, Garfield, NJ (973-340-7077). Condolences visit aloiafuneral.com
