Obituary for Stephen Hawroniak, Sr.

HAWRONIAK, Stephen, Sr., age 75, of Garfield, died on April 27, 2023. Born in Hannover, Germany, he lived there for 2 years emigrating to the United States and settling in Garfield 73 years ago. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970 decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Stephen worked as a fork lift operator 18 years with Garden State Paper in Garfield retiring in 2001, he was a member of the Pace Industry Union of New Jersey, a member of the Garfield VFW Post 2867, a life member of the 11th Armored Calvary Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia - Thunder Run Chapter, and he was a parishioner of St. Nicholas RC Church in Passaic. He is predeceased by his parents, Wasil and Pearl Hawroniak. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary (nee Vaskanin) Hawroniak, his six loving children, Katherine Hawroniak, Tanya Bednarz and husband Steven, Lesia Hawroniak, Stephen M. Hawroniak, Jr., Michael Hawroniak, and Michelle Joyce and husband James, two cherished grandchildren, Veronica and Nikolas Bednarz, a dear sister, Irene Zito with husband Robert, and his adored dog Brody. Visiting Sunday 2 to 6 pm. The funeral is Monday, May 1, 2023, arriving at the Aloia Funeral Home at 8:30 am followed by a 9:30 am mass at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin RC Church, Garfield. Interment Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Garfield VFW and to Our Lady of Mt. Virgin RC Church, Garfield.
