I was Carmine's Home Health Aide for a little over a year and he was the nicest client that I have ever had. Everywhere we went around town people would flock to him and say hello. The A&P,the park, the Senior Citizens,Lodi Lanes. He loved the Elmwood Park Diner and when we would go in there, the women would yell, Carminooch! They always knew what he would order, the cheese omlette with french fries or the cheeseburger and don't forget the cup of cole slaw on the side. He also loved the mints by the register and would fill his pockets with them. One time he asked me to dump the bowl of mints in my purse! I will always remember watching The Grand Ole Opry at Carnegie Hall. He loved his country music and also Andrea Bochelli. His favorite female singer was Martina McBride, who he referrd to as the one with the" Bedroom Eyes"! He was so funny and polite...quite a gentleman., He loved his family so much. His 2 sons were always there for him and he loved them and always had good things to say about both his daughter in laws. He was so proud of his grandchildren and would show me photos with something speciial to say about all of them.
I will never look at blue masking tape the same way, as Carmine would use it for everything, hanging stuff on the wall and for a quick fix around the house. He also would take pens from everywhere he went and then would hide them in the house so no one would take them but then forgot where he hid them. So funny! He loved the Rangers and the Mets. Hope he got to see the Rangers win before he passed.
He used to call me his Pal and he didn't know what he would do without me. I wonder if he knew how honored I was to know him.
He spoke so highly of his beloved, wife Lucillle and now he can be with her and bet he is smiling and content. What a great guy who will be missed!
Sincerely, RuthAnn Mascia
